💔 HE WAS ONLY EIGHT MONTHS OLD, BUT RIDGE WATTS LEFT BEHIND A LIFETIME OF LOVE

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA — Some lives are measured in decades. Others are measured in months, moments and memories.

For Annsley and Bailey Watts, their son Ridge lived for only eight months. But during those eight months, the little boy filled their family’s world with a kind of love that will remain long after his final day.

Ridge was born on August 11 with Epidermolysis Bullosa, commonly known as EB, a rare genetic condition that causes extremely fragile skin. Even ordinary friction or touch can result in painful wounds and blistering for children living with the condition.

For Ridge’s parents, caring for their baby meant learning to approach everyday life with extraordinary gentleness.

Several times each day, they carefully changed his dressings and protected his delicate skin. Clothing, movement and even simple handling required attention and patience.

Yet they never wanted Ridge’s medical condition to define his childhood.

Just two days after Ridge’s family had celebrated his eight-month milestone, he suddenly began experiencing serious difficulty breathing.

The situation quickly became an emergency.

Responders were called, and Ridge was transported by helicopter to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham.

For Annsley and Bailey, those moments must have felt unbearably long. Their baby, who had already fought through so many challenges, was once again facing a critical situation.

Medical teams were waiting when Ridge arrived.

Doctors immediately began working to save him, fighting for the tiny child whose parents had spent every day protecting, comforting and loving him.
