The Caleb Flynn trial took a dramatic turn as his former mistress, Alleigha Botner, spent nearly seven hours over two days walking jurors through thousands of messages exchanged during their relationship.

Prosecutors say Flynn and Botner exchanged more than 107,000 messages, with the communications becoming a central part of the state’s effort to show a possible motive in the d#ath of Flynn’s wife, Ashley.

📱 A MOUNTAIN OF MESSAGES

Botner described an approximately two-year relationship with Flynn, beginning Sєxually in 2024. Prosecutors presented message exchanges in which the pair discussed their future together, Flynn’s marriage and their desire for him to leave Ashley.

Some messages read in court contained deeply disturbing statements about Ashley. Botner became emotional while reading one exchange in which she herself wrote that she wanted to k#ll Ashley, followed by a response from Flynn indicating that he shared similar feelings.

Another series of messages, according to testimony, involved Flynn saying he had spent time thinking about ways to k#ll Ashley without going to jail.

The prosecution argues that these communications are important because they occurred months before Ashley was found d#ead.

⏰ THE HOURS BEFORE ASHLEY’S D#ATH

Prosecutors also focused on messages exchanged shortly before Feb. 16, the day Ashley was f#tally sH๏τ at the family’s home in Tipp City.

Botner testified that Flynn had told her he intended to discuss divorce with Ashley and her family that day. In one late-night exchange, Flynn allegedly told Botner that he chose her and that he would be free soon.

According to testimony reported by WHIO, Flynn’s last messages to Botner came around 12:45 a.m. on Feb. 16. Police responded to the Flynn residence roughly two hours later after Caleb called 911.

The timing of those communications has become an important part of the prosecution’s presentation to the jury.

🏛️ PROSECUTION AND DEFENSE PRESENT DIFFERENT STORIES

Prosecutors contend the messages demonstrate hostility toward Ashley and provide evidence supporting their theory that her d#ath was planned.

The defense disputes that interpretation. Attorneys have argued that Flynn made hurtful and disturbing statements during an emotionally complicated affair, but that such messages do not prove he committed the crime.

Defense attorney Emily Smith has emphasized that there is no direct physical evidence, such as the firearm used in the shooting, tying Flynn to Ashley’s d#ath. The defense has characterized the prosecution’s case as a theory built around the affair and the messages.

🔍 BOTNER’S OWN CREDIBILITY UNDER SCRUTINY

During cross-examination, defense attorneys highlighted that Botner did not initially contact law enforcement herself and acknowledged that she was not completely truthful during her first interview with federal investigators.

Her attorney has also confirmed that she has not been offered immunity or charged in connection with Ashley’s d#ath.

Those issues are expected to remain important as jurors consider how much weight to give her testimony and the enormous volume of messages introduced as evidence.

WHAT JURORS MUST DECIDE

The testimony does not by itself establish that Flynn committed the crime. It is part of the evidence prosecutors are presenting as they attempt to prove their allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

Flynn has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The defense continues to challenge the prosecution’s interpretation of the messages and the investigation.

As testimony continues, the central question for jurors remains whether the messages represent evidence of a planned crime — or disturbing statements from an affair that prosecutors cannot independently connect to Ashley’s d#ath.
