The moment Andrew Jackson and his wife, Lacey, welcomed their daughter into the world was one they had dreamed about for months.

Then, just seconds after hearing her very first cry, they noticed something completely unexpected. 💙

When baby Natalie Jackson was lifted into her mother’s arms following a Cesarean delivery on January 9, a large dark birthmark covered nearly one-third of the left side of her face.

For a brief moment, fear took over.

“Hearing her first cry was so special,” Lacey recalled. “Then the nurse held her up, and I saw the large dark mark on her face.”
At first, the new mother wondered if something had gone wrong during pregnancy.

The mark looked almost like a bruise.

Thankfully, doctors quickly reᴀssured the family that Natalie was healthy, breathing normally, and that the mark was a congenital birthmark, not an injury. ❤️

Even with that reᴀssurance, another worry soon entered Lacey’s mind.

As she held her beautiful newborn daughter, she couldn’t stop wondering how the world might react.

Doctors explained that the birthmark would continue to grow as Natalie grew, meaning it would always remain a defining feature of her appearance.

“As I held my little girl, completely in love with her, I worried that people might only see her birthmark instead of the amazing person she would become,” Lacey said.
But in that same moment, she made herself a promise.

“We would love her endlessly and give her all the confidence in the world so she’d always know how beautiful she is—and that she can achieve anything she dreams of.” 💖
Andrew, originally from Hull, England, now lives with his family in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where the couple are raising Natalie alongside her two older brothers, Elliott, 7, and Devin, 4.

When the boys met their baby sister for the very first time, they had one obvious question.

“What’s that on her face?”
Rather than letting the moment become one of fear, Lacey answered with imagination.

She smiled and told them it was Natalie’s superhero mask. 🦇✨

The explanation instantly transformed the way her brothers saw it.

Instead of focusing on what made Natalie different, they saw something extraordinary.

A superhero.

“I told them that because of her superhero mask, she could do anything,” Lacey said.
Since then, the nickname has become a joyful reminder that differences can be something to celebrate.

A week after Natalie was born, her parents brought her to an ophthalmologist to ensure the birthmark wasn’t affecting her eyesight.

She also underwent evaluations with dermatology specialists and had an MRI as doctors carefully ᴀssessed her overall health.

While the birthmark may slightly increase her lifetime risk of certain skin conditions, including melanoma, her parents were grateful to finally understand what they were facing.

Despite learning about potential future medical challenges, they made an important decision.

They chose not to remove Natalie’s birthmark.

Instead, they want her to grow up embracing the feature that makes her unique.

Although strangers occasionally stare when they are out in public, Andrew and Lacey refuse to let those moments define their daughter.

To them, being different isn’t something to hide.

It’s something to celebrate. 🌈

“People tell us how amazing her birthmark is and how beautiful she is,” Lacey said. “We couldn’t agree more.”
She hopes Natalie will always understand that her appearance is only one small part of who she is.

“We’ll always remind her that her birthmark is part of what makes her special,” she said. “People may notice it first—but they’ll also come to know the wonderful person she is inside.” ❤️
For her parents, Natalie’s mark isn’t a flaw.

It’s a symbol of strength.

A reminder that confidence begins with accepting yourself exactly as you are.
