Nearly six months after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home near Tucson, Arizona, investigators are making a new public appeal—hoping that two recently released ransom notes may finally generate the tip that helps solve the case. 💙

📝 Sheriff Hopes Public Will Recognize the Writing
In a video shared on August 1, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos explained why investigators decided to publicly release the full text of two ransom notes connected to Nancy’s disappearance.

According to Nanos, detectives believe the wording, writing style, or specific phrases used in the letters could trigger someone’s memory.

“We hope that by releasing some of this information, it will jog somebody,” Nanos said.
He explained that investigators noticed several details within the notes that they believe could be familiar to someone who knows the writer.

“It might jog somebody to say, ‘I’ve heard that,’ or recognize the wording or the style of the writing,” he said.
Investigators hope someone in the community will recognize those details and come forward with information.

🏡 Two Letters, Two Very Different Messages
Authorities released the complete text of two ransom notes that were reportedly sent to several news organizations on February 2—the day after Nancy disappeared—and again on February 6.

The first letter, addressed to Nancy’s daughter, Savannah Guthrie, claimed Nancy had been abducted and demanded ransom money in exchange for her safe return.

Days later, a second letter was sent to the family.

In that message, the sender claimed Nancy had died unintentionally shortly after being taken and expressed remorse, writing that her death had not been planned.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the claims contained in either letter are true, and both remain important pieces of evidence in the ongoing investigation.

🔍 Investigation Continues on Multiple Fronts
Sheriff Nanos emphasized that the case remains “very active” and said the Guthrie family was informed before the ransom notes were released publicly.

He also reiterated that investigators believe someone knows what happened.

“Someone knows who this person is. Someone knows something—we want that person to call us,” Nanos said.

The FBI continues offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery or an arrest in the case.

In addition, Savannah Guthrie and her family have announced a separate $1 million reward in hopes of encouraging someone with critical information to come forward.
