🥹💗 THEY SHARED PART OF THEIR BRAINS — THEN TECHNOLOGY HELPED GIVE MINAL AND MIRHA TWO SEPARATE LIVES 🌈👧👧

When little Minal and Mirha were born in Pakistan, they were joined at the head — a rare condition known as craniopagus twins.

But their connection was far more complex than bones alone. The sisters shared important blood vessels and brain tissue, meaning even the smallest mistake during surgery could put either girl’s life at risk. 💔🏥

Their case was eventually referred to Gemini Untwined, while Turkey’s Ministry of Health helped fund their treatment at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital.

Before surgeons ever made an incision, they created a detailed 3D model of the twins’ shared anatomy. Using mixed-reality technology, doctors in Turkey and the UK could study the same blood vessels and brain structures, examine the anatomy from different angles and rehearse the separation procedure together. 🧠✨

The separation was carried out in stages over several months.

Then, on July 19, 2024, a team of around 60 medical professionals completed the final operation. It lasted approximately 14 hours. 🙏🏥

Two months later, doctors described the girls’ recovery as excellent.

And for their parents, perhaps the most meaningful result was beautifully simple:

The technology did not make the surgery easy. Their shared blood vessels and brain tissue still made the procedure extraordinarily dangerous. But careful planning gave the medical teams a way to understand their unique anatomy before entering the operating room. 🌷✨
