💙 After 11 Minutes Underwater and 52 Minutes of CPR, Baby Weston Is Awake and Breathing on His Own

For days, his family didn’t know if they would ever see him awake again.

A remarkable step forward is giving Weston’s family renewed hope after the little boy survived an unimaginable medical emergency in Michigan.

More than a week ago, Weston was traveling with his mother, Carissa, when their vehicle ended up in a pond. According to his family, they believe Carissa suffered a seizure while driving, leading to the vehicle entering the water.

A first responder was able to pull Carissa from the pond.

But rescuers soon realized that her baby was still trapped inside the vehicle.

Weston had reportedly been underwater for an estimated 11 minutes before rescuers were able to reach him.

What followed was an extraordinary fight for his life.

Emergency responders performed CPR for approximately 52 minutes before Weston’s heart began beating again.

But getting his heart beating was only the beginning.

The little boy was taken for intensive medical care and placed on a ventilator as doctors worked to stabilize him. His family spent the following days watching closely for every sign of progress.

They celebrated small changes.

Weston began opening his eyes more frequently. Doctors continued monitoring his brain after he experienced a couple of brief seizures. Meanwhile, Carissa was recovering from injuries of her own, as well as another seizure following the crash, while trying to remain close to her son.

Weston’s father, Bryce, has also remained by the family’s side throughout the ordeal. ❤️

The family knew that even if Weston survived, the road ahead could be extremely long.

Doctors have warned them that his recovery could take months and potentially much longer. There are still significant questions about how his brain and body will heal after the time he spent underwater and the prolonged resuscitation.

And even more importantly, he is now breathing without the ventilator.

His grandfather, Cory, says Weston is understandably agitated and may be experiencing pain as his body adjusts. Doctors are working to keep him comfortable while continuing to monitor his condition.
