💔 BEFORE THE TRAGEDY, AN 81-YEAR-OLD NEIGHBOR REMEMBERED LINDSAY CLANCY WITH HER CHILDREN

Long before Lindsay Clancy became the center of a nationally watched trial, neighbors in quiet Duxbury remembered her as a mother living an ordinary family life.

Ruth Hearson, 81, who lives directly across from the former Clancy home, recently recalled seeing Lindsay outside with her children.

“One time I saw her with the kids,” Ruth said, describing Lindsay pushing a little carriage while the older children were around the home. She also remembered the children playing in the backyard, where there was a jungle gym, and sometimes seeing them riding their bicycles.

To Ruth, there had been little about the family that suggested the tragedy that would eventually unfold.

She remembered the children as little ones who were often outside, while Lindsay and Patrick appeared to be simply raising their young family in a quiet neighborhood.

Ruth also recalled occasionally seeing Patrick and exchanging friendly greetings with him. One memory involved a deer jumping from her yard into the Clancy property — an ordinary neighborhood moment that now carries a completely different emotional weight.

More than three years later, those seemingly ordinary memories have become part of the public conversation surrounding Lindsay’s trial.

The contrast is difficult to comprehend: the neighbor remembers a mother with her children, a backyard filled with places for them to play, and a family living what appeared to be a normal suburban life.

Now, as jurors consider Lindsay’s criminal responsibility, memories from before the tragedy are being revisited alongside extensive testimony about her mental-health struggles and the events leading up to January 2023.

For Ruth, the memories are ultimately about the children.

“They were so cute,” she said, describing the situation as deeply tragic.

Sometimes, the most haunting details of a case are not the dramatic ones — but the quiet memories of how a family looked before everything changed.
