Twenty years after 23-year-old Artdrunetta Hobbs disappeared following a trip to Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta, her mother, Tonjala Harris, is still waiting for the answers that have remained out of reach for two decades.

Artdrunetta disappeared on August 10, 2006, after visiting the mall with friends. She was only 23 years old and had no idea that what appeared to be an ordinary outing would become the final known chapter of her life.

She was never heard from again.

According to investigators, authorities believe Artdrunetta was kidnapped and killed shortly after leaving the mall. Her vehicle was later discovered burned, becoming a significant part of the investigation. Despite years of questions and searching, however, no one has ever been convicted in connection with her disappearance and presumed death.

For Tonjala, the uncertainty began almost immediately.

“I knew something was wrong,” Harris recalled. “I just had a gut feeling something was wrong.”

That feeling became the beginning of a search that has lasted 20 years.

Over the years, Tonjala has continued hoping that someone will finally provide the information needed to explain what happened to her daughter. But one of the most painful parts of the case remains the fact that Artdrunetta’s remains have never been found.

For a mother, that absence creates a unique kind of heartbreak. There is no grave to visit, no place to bring flowers and no opportunity to give her daughter the farewell she deserves.

Still, Harris refuses to let hope disappear.

“I just hope that I will find my daughter,” she said. “Even if I just find her remains, I just got hope.”

That hope has kept her moving forward through years of uncertainty.

Harris and volunteers have continued searching, including looking through parks and following possibilities that might lead them closer to Artdrunetta. Each potential lead represents another chance to finally learn where she is.

After two decades, Harris says her wish is painfully simple.

She wants to know where her daughter is.

Even if the answers cannot undo the years of heartbreak, finding Artdrunetta would allow her family to finally bring her home and give her a proper burial.

“I gotta have a little bit of hope, but that’s what keeps me going,” Harris said.

Her words capture the reality of countless families who continue searching for loved ones long after a case has gone cold. Time may pᴀss, but the need for answers does not disappear.

For Tonjala, August 10 is not simply another date on the calendar. It marks the moment her daughter vanished and the beginning of a 20-year journey filled with questions, searching and hope.
