📰💔 🚨 California Daycare Provider Sentenced Following Heartbreaking Loss of Five-Month-Old Infant

A California courtroom brought legal closure to a deeply emotional case after a former in-home daycare provider was sentenced in connection with the heartbreaking loss of five-month-old Christian Olvera.

According to prosecutors, Roxane Helus, 49, operated a daycare from her home in Manteca, California. On October 22, 2025, she was responsible for caring for six children, including baby Christian.

Court records state that Helus later pleaded guilty to manslaughter, child abuse, and driving under the influence.

Investigators reported that Helus began consuming alcohol early that morning before transporting two children to school. Authorities said evidence presented during the case showed she later continued drinking while supervising several young children at the daycare.

Around midday, baby Christian experienced a medical emergency. According to prosecutors, Helus was too intoxicated to recognize the seriousness of the situation immediately.

Christian was rushed to a hospital, where medical teams worked tirelessly to save his life. Despite their efforts, his condition did not improve, and after two days of intensive medical care, life support was withdrawn.

Medical officials determined that Christian pᴀssed away as a result of anoxic brain injury, a condition caused by the brain being deprived of oxygen.

During sentencing on July 17, the court ordered Helus to serve six years in state prison. In addition to the prison sentence, she was ordered to pay $12,818 in resтιтution to Christian’s family and $3,327.22 to the families of the other children who were in her care that day.

The heartbreaking case has renewed conversations about the enormous responsibility carried by childcare providers and the trust families place in those entrusted with their children’s well-being.
