Seven-year-old Sammy Lee of Rainbow City, Alabama, was enjoying his second season of youth football with the Rainbow City Panthers when his weekend suddenly took an unexpected turn.

During a game Saturday afternoon, Sammy suffered a serious leg injury after taking an awkward fall.

What followed was a frightening rush to get the young athlete the medical attention he needed.

An ambulance transported Sammy before he was flown to Children’s of Alabama, where doctors performed emergency surgery. For his family, watching their seven-year-old son being rushed away for urgent treatment was an experience no parent ever wants to face. 💔

Sammy had been excited about the football season, making the sudden interruption especially difficult.

But there is encouraging news.

According to Sammy’s mother, Melissa Bothwell, doctors told the family after surgery that his injury is not career-ending.

With time, patience and rehabilitation, Sammy is expected to recover and eventually return to the activities he loves.

For now, the young Panthers player has plenty of motivation to keep pushing forward.
