For more than a year and a half, five siblings — Zendaya, Jamel, Nakia, Major and baby Michaela — were living separated from one another.

Five brothers and sisters.

Four different homes.

And a childhood being lived apart from the people who shared their family story.

Then Lamont Thomas stepped forward. 🙏

The Buffalo, New York, father was already familiar with the foster-care system. Since 2000, he had fostered more than 30 children, opening his home to young people who needed somewhere safe to belong.

When Lamont learned about the five siblings and discovered that they were living apart, he knew he couldn’t simply walk away.

He wanted them together.

But bringing all five children into one home would not happen overnight.

It required patience, paperwork and an enormous amount of determination. For nearly two years, Lamont worked toward the goal of giving the siblings something they had been missing: the chance to grow up together.

Then came the day their family had been waiting for.

On October 17, 2019, Lamont stood in court and adopted all five children together. ❤️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

For Zendaya, Jamel, Nakia, Major and baby Michaela, the moment represented far more than a legal change.

It meant they would no longer have to wonder when they would see one another again.

They would wake up under the same roof.

Share meals.

Celebrate birthdays.

Make memories.

Grow up together.

Most importantly, they had each other.

🥹 After spending so much time separated, five siblings who had once lived miles apart finally had one home, one father and one another.

Lamont’s decision also reflected something he had demonstrated for years: family can be created through commitment, protection and love.

His story is a reminder that sometimes changing a child’s life doesn’t require extraordinary words. It can begin with something as simple as opening a door and saying, “You belong here.”
