Nearly six months after the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, investigators say an important piece of forensic evidence has not led them to a suspect, as the search for the missing Arizona grandmother continues. 💔

On July 31, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that hair recovered from Nancy’s Tucson home has been fully analyzed.

“We can confirm that all hair has been resolved and it does not point to a suspect in this investigation,” a department spokesperson told PEOPLE.
The FBI’s Phoenix Field Office, which continues to ᴀssist with the case, also confirmed the finding. 🕵️‍♂️

Sheriff Chris Nanos explained that hair rarely provides usable DNA evidence.

“To find DNA on hair is extremely rare,” he said. “Hair doesn’t produce DNA like touch DNA or bodily fluids.”

The announcement comes just one day before the six-month anniversary of Nancy’s disappearance.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of journalist Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1 after she was last seen the previous evening at her home in Tucson, Arizona. Authorities believe she was kidnapped during the early morning hours by a masked individual captured on surveillance video appearing to tamper with her doorbell camera. 🚪🎥

Despite months of investigation, Nancy’s whereabouts remain unknown.

“The analysis of DNA and digital evidence has been underway for the past six months,” Sheriff Nanos said in a July 30 statement. “This work is complex and time-intensive, but investigators continue to pursue every credible lead.” 🔬

The case has also been complicated by multiple ransom messages sent after Nancy disappeared.

The first note demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin in exchange for her safe return and threatened that she would be killed if payment was not made within a specified ᴅᴇᴀᴅline.

A second message, revealed weeks later, reportedly claimed that Nancy had died shortly after the kidnapping and expressed regret—but did not demand any money, raising further questions about its authenticity. 📩

The FBI has stated that while some ransom notes have been determined to be fraudulent extortion attempts, other communications remain under active investigation.

Authorities continue to classify the case as a kidnapping for ransom investigation.

As the painful six-month milestone approaches, Savannah Guthrie shared an emotional message describing the family’s ongoing heartbreak.

“Our family is in agony,” she said. “We are living a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed.”

She added:

“We have done our part, and we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her and feel that hole in our hearts.” 💙

To encourage new information, the FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery or the arrest of those responsible. Savannah Guthrie and her family have also announced an additional $1 million reward.

Although the latest forensic testing has ruled out one potential lead, investigators say the search is far from over and remain committed to following every credible piece of evidence until answers are found. 🕊️🔍
