🚨💔🕊️ THEY FOUGHT THROUGH FOUR SURGERIES… THEN THEIR FIFTH AND FINAL OPERATION ENDED IN A HEARTBREAKING GOODBYE 😭
For two years, Heloísa and Helena Batista da Silva shared a life unlike almost any other children.
Born in early 2024, the sisters were conjoined at the head, sharing brain tissue and blood vessels. Their condition made separation extraordinarily complicated, but their doctors were determined to give them the best chance possible.
That meant preparing for a long and difficult medical journey.
Before separation was even possible, the girls required a gastrostomy to help with feeding and a tracheostomy to ᴀssist with breathing. They also endured serious illnesses, including pneumonia.
Their tiny bodies had already been through so much.
But their family continued to hope.
Doctors developed a plan involving multiple operations.
The first four surgeries were successful.
By the third operation, doctors had separated approximately 75% of the blood vessels they shared. During the fourth surgery, tissue expanders were placed to create enough additional tissue for each girl’s body to be closed after the final separation.
Step by step, the sisters were being prepared for the operation everyone had been waiting for.
Then came the fifth surgery.
The final surgery.
More than 50 medical professionals were involved, each with a specific role in the extraordinarily complex procedure.
The operation continued for approximately 15 hours.
And then, shortly after the girls were separated, everything changed.
Both babies developed haemodynamic instability, meaning their bodies were no longer maintaining adequate blood flow to their vital organs.
One experienced dangerously high blood pressure while the other experienced dangerously low blood pressure.
The medical team faced a rapidly deteriorating situation.
At 11:12 p.m., Helena suffered cardiac arrest. 💔
Just 14 minutes later, at 11:26 p.m., Heloísa also suffered cardiac arrest.
Doctors and medical staff immediately began trying to resuscitate the sisters.
For nearly half an hour, they fought to bring the little girls back.
But despite their efforts, neither baby could be saved.
After two years of medical challenges, four previous surgeries and an extraordinary final attempt at separation, Heloísa and Helena had pᴀssed away. 😔🕊️
Their father, Amarildo Batista da Silva, expressed graтιтude to the doctors and medical professionals who had worked so hard to give his daughters a chance at a different future.
On August 16, the sisters were laid to rest near their family’s home in São José dos Campos.
Their story is heartbreaking, but it is also a story of extraordinary determination.
These little girls endured procedures that most adults could never imagine.
Their family kept hoping.
Their doctors kept fighting.
And through every operation, Heloísa and Helena continued to fight alongside them. ❤️
The outcome is devastating, but the medical team did everything they could with the knowledge, technology and resources available to them.
For their family, there will now be an unimaginable silence where two little voices should have been.
Two sisters. Four successful surgeries. One final attempt. Two little lives that fought until the very end. 💔🕊️
May Heloísa and Helena rest peacefully together. ❤️
Please leave a 🕊️ or ❤️ for these brave little girls and keep their family in your prayers.
And if their story touched your heart, share it so their lives—and the extraordinary fight they endured—will not be forgotten. 🙏🕊️
