Corie Walsh, the Illinois mother accused in the d#ath of her 2-year-old son Barrett, pleaded not guilty to first-degree mu#der charges during a court hearing on September 24.

A NOT-GUILTY PLEA

Walsh faces three counts of first-degree mu#der under different legal theories related to Barrett’s d#ath.

The defense has indicated that it wants Walsh to receive treatment in a hospital if the court determines that is appropriate.

CONNECTION TO THE LINDSAY CLANCY CASE

The case has attracted additional attention because prosecutors say Walsh had been closely following the Lindsay Clancy trial in the weeks leading up to Barrett’s d#ath.

According to court documents and reporting from AP, Walsh had discussed the Clancy case with friends shortly before the incident. However, authorities have not established that the two cases were directly connected.

Walsh’s attorneys have also pushed back against descriptions portraying her as a “copycat,” arguing that such comparisons oversimplify a complicated case involving serious mental-health questions.
