BARNEGAT BAY, NEW JERSEY — July 19, 2026 — The pH๏τographs show what appears to be an ordinary family boating day.

Nine-year-old Mya Golabek and her 7-year-old brother, Sigmund “Siggy” Golabek, are smiling together on the water, wearing life jackets and enjoying time with the family members who loved them.

At the time, they were simply childhood memories.

Today, those pH๏τographs carry an entirely different meaning. 💔📸

Mya and Siggy were described by their family as much more than brother and sister. They were best friends who grew up side by side, sharing sports, adventures, pets, laughter and countless everyday moments.

Their loved ones believed there would be many more memories ahead.

But on the evening of July 19, a family boating trip on Barnegat Bay ended in tragedy.

According to authorities, the boat carrying Mya, Siggy and their grandparents struck a wooden channel marker.

The impact sent the two children into the water.

Emergency crews responded and pulled the siblings from the bay. Medical personnel worked desperately to help them, but both children later pᴀssed away from their injuries. 🕊️💔

The circumstances surrounding the crash are now part of a legal case.

Their grandfather, 64-year-old Stephen Schneider, was later charged after authorities alleged that he had been operating the boat while impaired by alcohol.

He faces two counts of reckless vessel homicide along with additional boating-related charges. The allegations remain subject to the court process, and the legal proceedings will determine the facts and responsibility involved.

For Mya and Siggy’s family, however, no court proceeding can change what was lost.

Mya was only 9.

Siggy was only 7.

They should have had years ahead of them filled with school days, birthdays, sports, vacations and the ordinary adventures that make childhood special. 🧸❤️
