📰💔 🚨 College Student’s Final Meeting With Ex Ends in Tragedy: Jury Convicts Man of Murder After Rejecting Self-Defense Claim

What was meant to be one final conversation became a tragedy that forever changed a family.

Tynesha Stewart, a 19-year-old college student, was home for spring break when she agreed to meet her former boyfriend, believing it would be the last time they spoke. According to prosecutors, she left without her phone and never returned home.

Investigators later determined that Tynesha had been killed inside the apartment of Timothy Wayne Shepherd, then 27 years old.

According to court records presented during the trial, prosecutors alleged that Shepherd strangled Tynesha after becoming unable to accept that she had ended the relationship and moved on with her life after leaving for college.

Authorities further alleged that, following her death, Shepherd took extensive steps to conceal the crime and hinder identification of the victim. Prosecutors presented evidence describing efforts to dispose of and destroy portions of Tynesha’s remains. Neighbors reportedly told investigators they noticed thick black smoke and a strong odor coming from the apartment complex, while Shepherd allegedly offered an innocent explanation for the smell.

The case drew widespread attention because of both the killing and the alleged attempts to conceal evidence.

During the trial, Shepherd claimed he acted in self-defense. However, after hearing testimony and reviewing the evidence, the jury rejected that defense.

In 2008, Shepherd was convicted of murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison.

For Tynesha’s family, the conviction brought accountability but could never replace the future that was stolen. Loved ones remembered her as a bright young woman with dreams of completing college and building a successful life. Those dreams ended long before they had the opportunity to become reality.
