After spending more than 400 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), baby Colsen Knox is finally preparing for the moment his family has dreamed about since the day he was born—going home.

For more than a year, Colsen’s parents have made countless trips to the hospital, celebrating every small victory along the way. Now, they are getting ready to introduce him to someone he has never met in person: his little brother, Everen Spencer, who was born while Colsen was still receiving lifesaving care.

Colsen arrived prematurely in March, weighing just 1 pound, 8 ounces. His mother, Savannah Jones, shared his journey on TikTok, explaining that doctors initially expected him to remain in the NICU for at least three months.

Instead, those three months became more than a year.

Throughout the long journey, Savannah embraced the тιтle of “NICU Momma,” spending as much time as possible by her son’s side at the University of Kentucky hospital while documenting both the challenges and the milestones that inspired thousands of followers.

Today, Colsen’s transformation is nothing short of remarkable.

After having his breathing tube removed around 145 days into his hospitalization, the tiny newborn has grown into a thriving little boy weighing nearly 21 pounds.

Despite countless blood tests, surgeries, and medical procedures, one thing has remained constant—his smile.

“He gets poked and checked, has had surgeries and all these things,” Savannah shared. “But honestly, ever since he reached the stage where babies begin to smile, he has smiled.”
Looking back, she admits nothing could have prepared their family for life inside the NICU.

“You kind of just get thrown into the NICU,” she said. “It’s something we never imagined during my pregnancy with Colsen until we were living it.”
While Colsen continued fighting in the hospital, the family’s story took another joyful turn.

Savannah and her husband welcomed their second son, Everen Spencer, who was born healthy and full-term.

Sharing the news online, Savannah celebrated the milestone with overwhelming graтιтude.

“He arrived full-term and healthy. He’s home, hallelujah. After a 400+ day NICU stay with his big brother, this is huge for us.”
Now, the family is on the verge of something they once feared might never happen—bringing both of their boys home under the same roof.

Even so, Savannah says they have learned not to celebrate too early.

“It’s like as soon as we start planning, something changes. So we say we’re going to the zoo.”
The phrase became the family’s lighthearted code for “going home,” a way to stay hopeful without tempting fate.

“Now we’re excited to bring him home,” she said, “and actually go to the zoo.”
The family’s GoFundMe page even carries the heartfelt тιтle “Colsen’s Trip to the Zoo (Home!)”, honoring the inside joke that helped them stay optimistic through more than a year of uncertainty.

According to the fundraiser, Colsen has continued making incredible progress. He has transitioned to a home ventilator, requires little to no supplemental oxygen, and is nearly ready for discharge after completing the final stages of reducing his medications.

“Colsen has been doing amazing,” the fundraiser shares. “He’s already on the settings they want him on before he goes home, and we couldn’t be more proud of how far he’s come.”
The fundraiser also celebrates another miracle the family has experienced.

“Savannah and Chris just welcomed their second baby boy, Everen, into the world. After everything they’ve been through, they are finally close to having both of their boys under one roof—something that once felt so far away.”
After more than 400 days filled with uncertainty, prayers, and extraordinary perseverance, Colsen’s journey is finally approaching its happiest chapter.

Soon, the little boy who has spent nearly his entire life inside a hospital will walk through his own front door for the very first time—and meet the baby brother who has been waiting for him all along.
