What was supposed to be one of the happiest chapters in a young family’s life quickly turned into a terrifying medical journey when doctors discovered that unborn baby Pippa had congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a rare and life-threatening condition that affects lung development and breathing.

The diagnosis came during a routine pregnancy scan. In an instant, excitement and celebration were replaced with fear and uncertainty. Doctors explained that CDH occurs when a hole in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest cavity, preventing the lungs from developing properly. In severe cases, survival is uncertain even with advanced medical care.

For Pippa’s parents, the news was devastating. They suddenly found themselves preparing not only for childbirth, but also for the possibility of surgeries, intensive care, and a long fight for survival.

When complications escalated, doctors performed an emergency C-section to deliver Pippa safely. The moment she entered the world, medical teams rushed her directly to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where specialists worked urgently to stabilize her fragile condition.
