💔 Grandpa Charged After Fatal Jersey Shore Boat Crash Claims Lives of Two Grandchildren

A heartbreaking family boating trip at the Jersey Shore has ended in tragedy after a grandfather was arrested and accused of operating a boat while intoxicated when it crashed, killing his two young grandchildren. 🚤💔
Stephen Schneider, 64, was arrested Friday and charged in connection with the July 19 crash on Barnegat Bay.
According to police, Schneider was allegedly under the influence while piloting his 30-foot Tidewater 280 at around 9 p.m. when the boat struck a wooden channel marker, sending his grandchildren into the dark water. 🚨🌊
Schneider and his wife reportedly pulled Mya Bella Golabek, 9, and her seven-year-old brother, Sigmund Paul Golabek, from the water. Both children were taken to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. 💔🕊️
Authorities did not initially release Schneider’s blood alcohol concentration from the night of the crash.

He was charged with two counts of reckless vessel homicide/death by vessel, a second-degree offense, as well as operating a vessel under the influence and reckless operation of a vessel. He remained in Ocean County Jail pending a future court hearing. ⚖️
The tragedy has left the family and the local community devastated.
Mya and Sigmund were remembered as not only siblings but also best friends who shared countless adventures and memories together. 💕👫
Mya was described as an artist and athlete who loved sports, swimming at the beach, crafting and drawing. Her younger brother Sigmund also enjoyed baseball, basketball and swimming, and treasured time with his family and friends. ⚾🏀🏊
The siblings were also devoted to their beloved dogs, Tequila and Captain. 🐶❤️
Berkeley Councilman James Byrnes, who witnessed the aftermath, recalled seeing first responders desperately trying to save the children.
“The firemen jumped right in,” Byrnes said, describing the efforts to revive them.

The devastating incident has deeply shaken the quiet Jersey Shore community.
“They’re going to be living with this forever in our hearts, and our thoughts go out to the family,” Byrnes said.
“This is a real tragedy.” 💔🕊️
For Mya and Sigmund’s loved ones, the memories of two bright young children — siblings who shared a special bond — will remain forever. 🌹💙
