๐ข๐ THEY CALLED HIM THEIR โLITTLE NINJA TURTLEโ โ BUT HIS PARENTS SAW A LITTLE BOY WHO DESERVED TO GROW UP COMFORTABLY ๐โจ
When James McCallum was born, his parents noticed an unusual mark covering much of his back. At first, they thought it might simply be a birthmark. But over the following weeks, it became thicker, lumpier and increasingly difficult for their baby boy. ๐๐ถ
Eventually, the growth covered around 75% of Jamesโ back, giving it the appearance of a turtle shell. His parents lovingly nicknamed him their โlittle Ninja Turtle.โ ๐ข๐
Doctors eventually diagnosed James with giant congenital melanocytic nevus, a rare condition involving a very large pigmented nevus. An MRI of his brain and spine thankfully showed no internal growth. ๐โจ

As the growth became larger, James struggled to lie comfortably on his back. His family often had to position him on his side, and the affected skin could also become itchy and uncomfortable. ๐ฅบ
Then came a new chapter.
James underwent surgeries to remove much of the nevus, followed by tissue expansion to gradually create healthy skin that could replace the affected area. After treatment, he was finally able to lie on his back more comfortably and move more freely. ๐ฅ๐
For his parents, every scar is worth it if it means giving their son a more comfortable childhood.
They don’t see a โturtle shell.โ They see James โ their beautiful, happy little boy. ๐ท๐
His journey is still continuing, but with every step, James is getting closer to the childhood his parents dreamed of for him: playing freely, sleeping comfortably and growing up without the burden that once covered so much of his back. ๐งธ๐
๐ขโจ From a rare condition that changed his beginning to a brighter future filled with possibility, Jamesโ story is one of love, courage and hope. ๐๐
