When Willow Dodding was still in her mother’s womb, a routine 20-week scan revealed that something was different about her right leg. 👶💗

Doctors discovered that Willow had fibular hemimelia, a rare condition in which the fibula does not develop normally. In Willow’s case, the bones in her right leg were significantly shorter than those in her left, creating a noticeable difference in leg length. 🦴🏥

For her parents, Charlotte and James Dodding, the news came as a huge shock. They were told there was no clear reason for the condition — it was simply the result of a random genetic change. 💔

Despite this, Willow continued to surprise her family.

She reached her developmental milestones and even began crawling and walking earlier than expected. 🥹🌈

But as she became more mobile, the difference in her legs made walking increasingly difficult. She developed a noticeable limp and needed an orthotic and knee brace for support. 👣

Doctors eventually recommended a Syme procedure, which would allow Willow to use a prosthetic more comfortably and give her greater freedom of movement.

It wasn’t an easy decision for her parents.

They considered leg-lengthening surgery, but that option could have meant numerous operations throughout Willow’s childhood. They ultimately decided they wanted to give their daughter the best opportunity to enjoy as normal a childhood as possible. 💕🙏

Surgeons at Manchester Children’s Hospital successfully performed the procedure in around two and a half hours, preserving Willow’s heel pad so she could eventually use a prosthetic limb. 🏥✨

Just four months later, Willow received her custom-made prosthetic.

And it wasn’t just any prosthetic. 🌸💗

It was decorated with floral fabric from one of her favorite baby tops — making her new limb something uniquely hers. 🥰

Then came the moment her parents had been waiting for.

In May, little Willow began walking confidently with her new prosthetic. 👣🌈

A sweet video captured her smiling as she took her first steps while her parents cheered her on.

For Charlotte and James, it was much more than simply watching their daughter walk.

It was proof of just how determined and resilient their little girl had become. 💪💗

Her mother says Willow was eager to get moving again and was even trying to crawl the day after surgery.
