⚖️💰 KARMELO ANTHONY’S FAMILY SEEKS $250,000 TO FUND HIS APPEAL AFTER NEW TRIAL REQUEST IS DENIED 💔

Karmelo Anthony’s legal battle is far from over.

After a Texas judge rejected his request for a new trial, Anthony’s family and defense team are now turning their attention to the appeals process — and asking supporters to help raise $250,000 for his legal defense.

The new fundraising campaign was launched this week through GiveSendGo. According to the campaign, the money will be used exclusively for appeal-related expenses, including legal filings, transcripts, investigators, expert witnesses, and other litigation costs.

Unlike the family’s previous fundraiser, the new campaign states that the money will be placed in an attorney trust account and that Anthony’s family will not control or spend the funds.

As of the latest reports, the campaign had raised roughly $27,000 toward its $250,000 goal.

The request comes after Anthony, now 19, was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025.

Anthony’s defense has maintained that he acted in self-defense.

His attorneys now argue that the trial contained serious issues that should be examined on appeal. Among their concerns is a private agreement between prosecutors and Anthony’s original defense team that kept certain background information about both teenagers out of the trial.

Anthony’s current attorneys say that agreement ultimately affected how the defense was presented and contributed to what they describe as an unfair trial.

The defense has also raised questions about evidence that jurors did not hear during the original trial, including allegations concerning Austin Metcalf’s past behavior.

Prosecutors have disputed the defense’s characterization of the evidence and have pointed to Anthony’s own past behavior as part of the broader legal dispute.

Anthony’s attorneys are now preparing to take the case before the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas.

They say the process could take well into next year, depending on how the appeal develops.

The latest development comes after a Collin County judge denied Anthony’s motion for a new trial.

His legal team has made clear that they are not giving up.

“We first want to thank everybody,” Anthony’s father, Andrew Anthony, said during a recent press conference, describing the support the family has received throughout the case.

For Austin Metcalf’s family, however, the legal battle continues to reopen the pain of losing their 17-year-old son.

Austin was a high school athlete whose life ended during what should have been an ordinary school sporting event.

Now, more than a year after his death, the case continues through another chapter in the courts.

The appeal will ultimately focus on whether legal errors occurred during Anthony’s trial and whether those alleged errors were significant enough to justify further action.

For now, the conviction and 35-year sentence remain in place.
