Young Girl Dies in Tragic Farm Accident After Falling from Tractor

A four-year-old girl from Kentucky lost her life in a sudden and heartbreaking accident on her family’s farm earlier this month. Hellayna Michelle King, known to her loved ones as Layna, died on September 2, 2026, after falling from a tractor and being run over by the vehicle.
According to Clark County Coroner Neal Oliver, the little girl had been riding on an attachment connected to the rear of a tractor while at the family property along Red River Road. When the tractor came to an abrupt stop, she was thrown forward onto the ground. The machine then moved backward and struck her.

Family members remained at her side for approximately 45 minutes while waiting for emergency responders to arrive. A nearby road closure, involving a bridge, significantly delayed help from reaching the scene. Her aunt, LaDonna Lovings, later told local media that the delay meant the family had to stay with the injured child for much longer than expected. She noted that while it is impossible to know whether faster medical attention would have changed the outcome, the presence of trained help sooner would have offered some comfort.
Hellayna was one of four children in the family. She was born on October 5, 2021, and would have celebrated her fifth birthday just weeks after the accident. Those who knew her described a bright and lively child who brought energy and joy to those around her. She particularly loved spending time on the farm, especially with the cows, and often filled the days with singing.

In a statement shared in her obituary, the family wrote that whether she was playing outdoors, helping with farm tasks, or singing a favorite song, Layna approached life with enthusiasm and happiness that will be deeply missed. Her aunt expressed the profound sense of loss felt by the entire family, saying words could not capture how much they miss her and how they wish they could reverse what happened.
Hellayna’s mother, Rebecca Lovings, launched a fundraising campaign to help cover the cost of an urn and other related expenses during this difficult time. In her message, she shared that the family feels as though they have lost their entire world and are struggling to find a way forward, while also needing to care for their three remaining children who depend on them every day.
The accident has left the family and community in mourning. As her aunt reflected, accidents occur regularly, yet most people never expect such a tragedy to strike so close to home.
