Xavier Taylor Update: Family Holds Onto Hope as 12-Year-Old Remains Critically Ill Weeks After Baseball Accident
Twelve-year-old Xavier Taylor’s family continues to hold onto hope as the young New Jersey baseball player remains in critical condition following an unexpected accident during pregame warmups on May 26.
Xavier was with his Maple Shade Youth Baseball team at Fellowship Columbia Bank Field when an errant baseball struck him in the neck. His father, Gregory Taylor, described the incident as a freak accident and said he did not blame anyone for what happened. Xavier was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was placed on a ventilator.
Since then, the Taylor family has received an extraordinary wave of support from teammates, coaches, local families and baseball communities far beyond New Jersey. A May 28 prayer vigil brought hundreds of people together at the same field where the accident occurred, with many supporters wearing Xavier’s No. 6 jersey number.
His father has repeatedly asked people to continue praying for his son, saying the family remains hopeful that Xavier can recover. The family has also emphasized how much baseball means to him. Xavier plays on multiple teams, collects baseball cards and has been described by his father as someone who loves being around the game.
The support has continued well beyond the initial days following the accident. Baseball organizations across New Jersey and other states have organized fundraisers, shared messages of encouragement and participated in the #XavierStrong campaign. Supporters have even placed baseball bats outside homes and community buildings as a symbolic gesture for the young player.
By late June, Xavier was still receiving care at Cooper University Hospital, with the community continuing to rally around his family. A Jeep parade was organized in his honor, bringing supporters together before traveling to the hospital.
For the Taylor family, the journey remains one day at a time. While the circumstances have been devastating, their message has remained consistent: keep believing, keep praying and keep hoping for Xavier’s recovery.
The latest publicly available reports indicate that Xavier remains in critical condition, while his family continues to ask for support and prayers.
