PC Tom Clough, 38, once joked that nobody would turn up for his funeral. After his tragic d#ath alongside fellow officer PC Matthew Blades in the A66 crash, the reality could not have been more different.

Hundreds of police officers, Army veterans and members of the public gathered for an emotional farewell, with reports describing around 1,000 officers and soldiers attending. A guard of honor stretched for hundreds of yards as colleagues and friends came together to remember a man whose life had been devoted to public service.

Before joining Cleveland Police, Tom had served in Iraq and Afghanistan with a bomb-disposal unit before continuing his career with British Transport Police and the Civil Nuclear Police. His family described him as a hero with a fantastic sense of humor, someone who would step forward whenever help was needed.

Now, the words he once said as a joke have taken on a heartbreaking meaning. The turnout at his funeral became a powerful answer — showing just how deeply Tom had touched the lives of colleagues, veterans, friends and members of the community.
