NEWBORN MARIA SKOPOVA NAMED AT INQUEST AS FOUR ADULTS AWAIT MUR@DER TRIAL

A newborn baby previously known in court only as Baby S has now been formally identified as Maria Skopova, as four adults — including her mother — face trial over allegations surrounding her d#ath in Sheffield.
Maria was born on August 30, 2026, at a property in Holywell Heights, Wincobank. She d#ied on the same day.
Her idenтιтy was confirmed when an inquest into her d#ath formally opened at Sheffield’s Medico-Legal Centre on October 1. Senior Coroner Tanyka Rawden then adjourned the proceedings until March 25, 2027, while the criminal case continues. She said she would review the evidence gathered before deciding how the inquest should proceed.

Maria’s mother, Andrea Skopova, 20, is charged with mu#der alongside Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37.
The four adults also face charges of causing or allowing the d#ath of a child and perverting the course of justice. Prosecutors allege the latter offence involved efforts to clean the scene.
A 15-year-old girl is separately charged with perverting the course of justice and cannot legally be identified because of her age. The defendants remain in custody, with the teenager held in youth custody.
At an earlier hearing, the court heard that police became involved after medical staff raised concerns shortly after Maria’s birth. Prosecutors also told the court that she was later discovered at the Holywell Heights property.
Some forensic details have been reported in connection with the case, but they are not necessary to understand the latest development: Maria’s d#ath is now being examined through both criminal proceedings and a formal inquest.
The four adults are due to stand trial at Sheffield Crown Court from April 12, 2027, with the proceedings expected to last up to seven weeks. A further hearing is scheduled for December 14, 2026.
For now, the biggest questions remain unanswered: what happened to Maria on the day she was born, what evidence will prosecutors present, and what will the court ultimately determine?
The charges remain allegations. None of the defendants has been convicted in connection with Maria’s d#ath.
