Texas Mother of Five Dies After Daylight Stabbing; Three Women Arrested as Community Mourns Caroline Peña
A quiet Thursday afternoon in Del Rio, Texas, turned into a devastating tragedy after a violent stabbing claimed the life of 32-year-old Caroline Peña, a devoted mother of five whose death has left her family and community heartbroken.
According to the Del Rio Police Department, officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a residence on East 10th Street at approximately 2:10 p.m. on June 25, 2026. When they arrived, they found Peña suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency personnel rushed to provide lifesaving treatment before she was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio due to the severity of her injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical teams, Peña succumbed to her injuries at approximately 9:00 p.m. the same day.
Investigators say surveillance video and witness statements helped officers quickly identify potential suspects. Within hours of the attack, police arrested 21-year-old Kitty Mia Diaz, 19-year-old Amaya Cookie Diaz, and 21-year-old Kyandra Renee Faz without incident. All three women have been charged with murder, while authorities continue investigating whether additional charges may be appropriate.
According to investigators, Peña suffered multiple stab wounds to her back and side, including one that punctured her lung. Detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and have not yet announced a motive.
Friends and loved ones have described Caroline as a caring, compᴀssionate woman whose life revolved around her children. One close friend told local media that her family rushed her to receive emergency medical care, hoping she would survive. Instead, they were forced to face the unimaginable reality of saying goodbye later that evening.
Peña’s death leaves behind five children, including two with autism, creating an enormous emotional and practical challenge for her surviving family. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover funeral expenses and provide ongoing support for the children as they adjust to life without their mother.
The fundraiser describes the heartbreaking reality facing the family, noting that all five children will carry the pain of losing their mother for the rest of their lives, while the two children with autism now face additional challenges as they struggle to understand her absence.
The swift arrests have brought some reᴀssurance to the Del Rio community, but many residents remain shaken that such a violent crime occurred in broad daylight. Neighbors remembered Caroline as a nurturing mother who always placed her family before herself and was known for her kindness and willingness to help others.
Authorities have confirmed that the three suspects are being held at the GEO Correctional Facility as the investigation continues. Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact investigators.
As the legal process moves forward, Caroline Peña is being remembered not for the violence that ended her life, but for the love she gave to her children and the lasting impact she made on everyone who knew her.
