Just before 5 a.m. on January 27, 2022, 48-year-old Charlene Jones was preparing to leave her apartment complex in Metairie, Louisiana.

She started her car.

Then, according to prosecutors, a man approached.

Charlene was sh** three times while sitting in the driver’s seat. She died at the scene.

What investigators uncovered afterward suggested the attack was not random.

Charlene had recently started dating Reginald Anderson after he ended his relationship with Monica Every on Christmas Day 2021.

According to prosecutors, Every became increasingly focused on the new relationship.

Investigators said the alleged harᴀssment began before the violence.

Prosecutors said an anonymous Crime Stoppers report was made falsely accusing Charlene of having a gun connected to another homicide. They also said efforts were made to have Reginald removed from the apartment complex.

But prosecutors alleged that those attempts did not end there.

They said Every ultimately paid Louis Gordon $10,000 to k*** Charlene.

Investigators later built a case using surveillance footage, cellphone records and financial transactions.

According to the evidence presented in the case, a vehicle belonging to Gordon’s girlfriend was seen leaving the apartment complex shortly after the sh**ting, and investigators determined Gordon had been using it.

Authorities also found communications between Gordon and Every after Charlene’s k***ing, along with evidence of money being transferred.

The weapon used in the attack was never recovered.

The case eventually reached trial.

In April 2025, Gordon was convicted of second-degree m***er and related charges.

Monica Every was convicted of being a principal to second-degree m***er, conspiracy and solicitation.

On May 29, 2025, both were sentenced to life in prison.

For Charlene’s loved ones, however, no sentence can bring her back.

She was 48.

She was preparing for an ordinary morning.

She had somewhere to be.

She started her car expecting to drive to work.

Instead, she became the victim of a plot prosecutors said was fueled by jealousy and carried out for money.

The contrast is devastating.

There was no warning that this would be her final morning.

No chance to say goodbye.

No chance to know what was waiting outside her car.

Charlene’s story is now preserved in court records and testimony, but behind the charges and convictions was a woman whose life extended far beyond the case.

She had people who loved her.
