During his emotional visit to Acerra, Pope Leo XIV brought comfort, prayer, and solidarity to communities scarred by pollution, toxic waste, and years of suffering in Italy’s troubled “Land of Fires.”

Meeting families, workers, and local residents, the Pope described the region as a wounded land still longing for healing, justice, and renewal. He encouraged people not to lose hope and called on society to protect both human life and the environment from greed, neglect, and exploitation.

Many residents were moved to tears as Pope Leo offered what they called a true pastoral embrace — a sign that their pain has not been forgotten.
