PART 2: THE KEY VANESSA WAS TERRIFIED OF
Adrian stared at the tiny key.
“What did Mommy say?”
Noah rubbed his eyes.
“She told me to give it to Daddy when Vanessa was gone.”
Adrian’s heart pounded.
“What else?”
Noah pointed toward the house.
“Mommy said there’s something in the wall.”
Adrian immediately remembered something.
Before his wife died, she had once told him:
“If anything happens to me, don’t trust Vanessa.”
He had dismissed it as fear.
Now he wished he hadn’t.
Adrian searched the house until he found an old locked cabinet hidden behind a painting.
The tiny key fit perfectly.
Inside was a small box.
And inside the box—
pH๏τographs.
Bank statements.
Medical records.
And a handwritten letter from his wife.
Adrian unfolded it with shaking hands.
“Adrian, if you’re reading this, Vanessa has probably already found out about the money.”
He stopped breathing.
The letter explained that Vanessa had been secretly transferring money from an account Adrian’s wife had created for Noah.
But there was something worse.
His wife had discovered that Vanessa wasn’t stealing the money for herself.
She had been sending it to someone else.
Someone Adrian knew.
Adrian looked at the final page.
A name was written there.
His father’s name.
Adrian stepped backward.
His father had been ᴅᴇᴀᴅ for ten years.
“How is that possible?”
Suddenly, his phone rang.
It was the police station.
The officer sounded serious.
“Mr. Cole, Vanessa is asking to speak with you.”
“Why?”
“She says she knows who ordered her to hurt your son.”
Adrian went silent.
The officer continued.
“She also claims your wife isn’t ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.”
Adrian’s grip тιԍнтened around the phone.
“What?”
Before the officer could answer, the call abruptly disconnected.
Then Noah appeared in the doorway.
“Daddy…”
Adrian turned.
Noah was holding an old pH๏τograph.
He had found it beneath the couch.
Adrian took it.
His face went completely pale.
The pH๏τograph showed his wife.
Alive.
Standing beside Vanessa.
And between them was a little girl Adrian had never seen before.
On the back, his wife’s handwriting said:
“If Noah ever asks about his sister, tell him the truth.”
Adrian stared at the pH๏τograph.
Noah looked up at him.
“Daddy…”
“What?”
“That’s the girl who came to our house last night.”
Adrian’s heart stopped.
Someone else had been inside the house.
And she knew exactly where Noah was.
