A promising young banking executive and new mother lost her life in a sudden and unprovoked knife attack in the heart of New York City on August 31, 2026. Erin Piacenti, 32, of Chester, New Jersey, had just finished her first day back at Bank of America after five months of maternity leave when she was fatally stabbed while walking through Times Square.

Pamela Cisneros, 49, of Queens, approached a 68-year-old man named Tak Kam who had just exited a subway station and was waiting to cross the street with his wife. Witnesses reported that Cisneros pulled two large knives from a red bag and stabbed the man in the abdomen. Roughly 20 seconds later she continued north and stabbed Piacenti. Officers quickly located Cisneros still holding the knives. She ignored repeated commands to drop the weapons and advanced toward police while waving the blades. She noted that Cisneros had previous documented mental-health-related contacts with the department in 2018 and 2019 but had no prior arrest record.
