New Court Documents Detail Investigators’ Allegations Following Fatal Texas Stabbing

Newly filed court documents have provided additional insight into the investigation surrounding the fatal stabbing of 32-year-old Caroline “Caro” Peña in Del Rio, Texas, outlining prosecutors’ allegations about what occurred in the moments after the attack.
According to charging documents, investigators allege that the three defendants attempted to remove potential physical evidence by washing themselves and changing their clothing before law enforcement officers arrived. These allegations are part of the prosecution’s case and have not been proven in court.

Peña, a mother of five, died after suffering multiple stab wounds during an altercation outside a residence in Del Rio.
Emergency responders transported her to a local hospital, where she received emergency medical treatment before later succumbing to her injuries. Her death prompted a homicide investigation, during which authorities collected surveillance footage, forensic evidence, witness statements, and digital records.
Following the investigation, authorities arrested 19-year-old Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 21-year-old Kitty Mia Diaz, and 21-year-old Kyandra Renee Faz.
All three have been charged with murder in connection with Peña’s death and remain in custody as the criminal case moves forward. As with all criminal defendants, they are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
According to recently filed court documents, investigators believe the defendants took steps after the confrontation that they allege were intended to conceal evidence. Prosecutors say detectives continue to piece together the sequence of events through forensic analysis, surveillance footage, and witness testimony as the case proceeds through the legal system.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to emerge as court proceedings continue.
