Investigators Allege Suspects Changed Clothes After Fatal Texas Stabbing As Murder Case Continues

The investigation into the fatal stabbing of 32-year-old Caroline “Caro” Peña in Del Rio, Texas, has entered another significant stage after newly filed court documents outlined prosecutors’ allegations regarding the actions of the three defendants immediately following the attack.
According to charging documents, investigators allege that the defendants attempted to remove physical evidence after the confrontation by washing themselves and changing clothes before officers arrived at the scene. The allegations form part of the prosecution’s case and have not yet been tested in court.
Peña, a mother of five, died after suffering multiple stab wounds during an altercation outside a residence in Del Rio.
Emergency responders transported her to a hospital, where she underwent emergency treatment before later dying from her injuries. Her death prompted a homicide investigation led by local law enforcement, who collected surveillance footage, forensic evidence, witness statements, and digital records.

Authorities subsequently arrested 19-year-old Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 21-year-old Kitty Mia Diaz, and 21-year-old Kyandra Renee Faz.
All three have been charged with murder in connection with Peña’s death. They remain in custody while the criminal proceedings continue and, like all defendants in criminal cases, are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Court documents filed by prosecutors provide additional detail regarding the sequence of events investigators believe occurred after the confrontation.
