Five-Year-Old Girl Undergoes Life-Changing 14-Hour Surgery to Remove Má´€ssive Facial Tumor đź’™

For most of her young life, Ignacia Sanmartin struggled with something no child should have to face—a mᴀssive tumor that grew across her chin and cheeks, making it difficult to breathe and threatening her life.
Born with a rare condition called lymphangioma, Ignacia developed a large benign tumor caused by abnormal lymph vessels. As it continued to grow, it compressed her windpipe, caused constant pain, affected her balance, and made chewing difficult. Even a simple cold could leave her struggling to breathe.
Doctors knew the tumor had to be removed, but because of its size and its close connection to major blood vessels, surgery was considered extremely dangerous. For years, her parents searched for someone willing to take the risk.

The emotional burden was just as painful. Ignacia’s family endured cruel stares and hurtful comments from strangers, while her parents fought to remind the world that their daughter was simply a little girl living with a serious medical condition.
Finally, a team led by maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Gonzalo Rossel agreed to perform the operation.
The delicate procedure lasted 14 hours. During surgery, doctors encountered a frightening complication when part of the tumor, тιԍнтly fused to major blood vessels, began bleeding heavily. Despite the life-threatening challenge, the surgical team successfully removed the growth.
Although lymphangiomas can return, doctors are hopeful that removing the source of the tumor will greatly reduce the chances of significant regrowth. Ignacia will continue to receive regular monitoring as she recovers.

Today, her parents are overwhelmed with graтιтude. Despite a few challenges during recovery, Ignacia is healing well, and the dramatic change has given her a brighter future.
“It’s a drastic change to her face,” her father said. “You can tell the surgeons and the entire medical team did an exceptional job with our girl.”
After years of fear, uncertainty, and unwavering determination, Ignacia finally has the chance to breathe easier—and to look forward to the childhood every little girl deserves.
