Eight Days of False Hope: Lorraine Cox’s Family Kept Searching While Her Killer Tried to Hide the Truth

Lorraine Cox, 32, was visiting friends in Exeter when she met Azam Mangori during a night out in September 2020. What followed became a devastating investigation that left her family desperately searching for answers.
The court heard that Mangori k#lled Lorraine inside his apartment above a kebab shop and then attempted to conceal what had happened. While Lorraine’s family and friends were still hoping she would return, messages were sent from her phone using her SIM card, creating the impression that she was still alive.
The deception continued for days as investigators worked to establish Lorraine’s movements and whereabouts. Prosecutors later presented evidence about Mangori’s actions during the period after Lorraine’s d#ath.

Her remains were eventually discovered in locations near Newton St Cyres, bringing an end to the search and confirming the tragedy her loved ones had feared.
CCTV evidence also played an important role in the investigation. Footage showed Mangori purchasing various items during the period prosecutors said he was attempting to conceal evidence.
Mangori was convicted of mu#der at Exeter Crown Court. On April 7, 2021, he was sentenced to life in pr#son with a minimum term of 20 years.
For Lorraine’s family and friends, however, her story was about far more than the crime that took her life. They remembered a woman known for her warmth, humor and generosity, and the happiness she brought to those around her.
The case left a lasting reminder of the pain caused when a family is forced to search for someone they love while being misled about what has happened to them.
