South Africa — Authorities launched an unusual recovery operation after locating a crocodile suspected of containing the remains of Gabriel Batista, a 59-year-old businessman who had been reported missing following severe flooding.
According to police reports, Batista disappeared after attempting to drive across a flooded bridge while en route to his H๏τel and bar.

His vehicle was swept away by strong floodwaters into a river known to be inhabited by crocodiles.
Days later, investigators used drone surveillance to identify a large crocodile in the area that raised suspicions.
A coordinated operation was carried out in which officers tracked, sH๏τ, and airlifted the reptile to a secure location for examination.
Once the animal was recovered, authorities conducted a forensic procedure and discovered human remains inside.
Among the findings was a ring believed to belong to Gabriel Batista, which has become a key element in the ongoing identification process.

Officials stated that DNA analysis is still underway to confirm the idenтιтy of the remains.
At this stage, the findings are considered consistent with the case, but final confirmation is pending forensic results.
Investigators also reported the discovery of multiple items inside the crocodile, including several pairs of shoes, raising concerns about whether the animal may have been involved in other incidents.

However, authorities have not confirmed any additional cases linked to these findings.
Police noted that it remains unclear whether Gabriel Batista was alive at the time he was taken by the animal, as the circumstances surrounding his disappearance involve both flood-related factors and wildlife risks.
The operation, which included aerial support and specialized recovery teams, has drawn attention due to its complexity and the extreme conditions faced by officers during the mission.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on completing forensic identification and reconstructing the sequence of events that led to Batista’s disappearance.
The case highlights the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions and wildlife in certain regions, particularly when flooding alters normal environments and increases risks for residents and travelers.
