Court Documents Identify Teen Accused of Fatally Stabbing Texas Mother During Confrontation

Newly released court documents have identified the 19-year-old woman authorities say fatally stabbed a Texas mother of five during a violent confrontation that ended in the woman’s death.
According to investigators, Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19, is accused of repeatedly stabbing 32-year-old Caroline “Caro” Peña during an altercation in Del Rio, Texas, on Thursday afternoon.
Cookie, her sister Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and their friend Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, have each been charged with first-degree murder. During a court appearance on Friday, a judge set bond at $5 million for each of the three defendants.
According to the arrest complaint, Faz told investigators that Peña had arrived at her home intending to start a fight.

Surveillance footage later reviewed by police reportedly showed Peña arriving at the residence in a black Dodge pickup truck. Shortly afterward, Cookie and Kitty Diaz arrived in a black Chrysler 300.
Investigators allege the video shows Cookie getting out of the pᴀssenger side of the vehicle while holding an object believed to be a knife in her right hand before confronting Peña.
Police say Cookie then stabbed Peña in the back, with blood immediately becoming visible on the victim’s shirt.
According to the complaint, Kitty Diaz and Faz then joined the confrontation, allegedly ᴀssaulting Peña before all three women fled the scene.
Following the attack, Peña was transported to a local hospital by her nephew before being transferred to a hospital in San Antonio, where she died approximately seven hours later from her injuries.
During Friday’s hearing, all three defendants requested court-appointed attorneys as they face first-degree murder charges in connection with Peña’s death.
The investigation into the fatal stabbing remains ongoing.
