PART 2 — THE BLOODLINE RANSOM… AND THE SHADOW ON THE RIDGE!

PART 2 — THE BLOODLINE RANSOM… AND THE SHADOW ON THE RIDGE! 😱🔥
The cabin went ᴅᴇᴀᴅ silent, save for the shriek of the blizzard whipping through the shattered window.
Alexander stood paralyzed, his rifle clattering against the pine planks. The voice from the storm was etched into every memory he possessed—the melody of his youth, the agonizing echo that had kept him trapped on this frozen peak for more than two decades.
“Elizabeth…?” Alexander choked out, his chest heaving as though the mountain air had turned to crushed stone. “She was on that bridge… The wreckage burned to ash!”
“Keep your head down, Alexander!” Victoria cried from the floor, instinctively tugging at the hem of his coat. Her entire world had cracked open beneath her feet. The wealthy industrialist in Boston she called Father, the pristine nursery, the grand ballrooms—it was all a theater of lies. “If you’re my father… who was outside with that voice?!”
A brutal kick splintered what remained of the cabin doorframe.
Through the blowing squall, Edward Whitmore stepped into the firelight. He wore an extravagant beaver-fur duster, his gray hair plastered against his forehead by snow, a smoking lever-action Winchester held casually in the crook of his arm. Behind him stood two burly mercenaries, revolvers drawn and leveled.
And dragged between them by heavy iron chain-links was a woman in a tattered gray wool shawl.
Her hair was streaked with winter silver, her cheek bruised, but the delicate curve of her jaw and the hazel eyes wide with raw terror matched the locket on the floor perfectly.
“Elizabeth!” Alexander roared, taking a thunderous step forward.
“Don’t move an inch, Captain!” Whitmore sneered, cocking his rifle with a metallic snap and pressing the freezing steel barrel directly beneath the woman’s chin. “One twitch, and I finish what your father-in-law started twenty-three years ago.”
“Edward, you sick bastard,” Alexander growled, his fists тιԍнтening until his fingernails bit into his palms, drawing blood. “You sabotaged the trestle. Harrington framed me for the disaster so he could steal my wife and my land patent!”
“Steal?” Whitmore chuckled, a dry, venomous sound that cut through the howling wind. “Charles Harrington didn’t just want the Colorado rail pᴀss, Blackwood. He wanted your wife. He’d been obsessed with Elizabeth since before you two took your vows. But Elizabeth never looked at him. When you put her on that train with the twins, Harrington saw his chance.”
“Twins…?” Victoria whispered from the shadows of the overturned table, her voice shaking uncontrollably. “Our other child…”
Elizabeth wept, looking toward Victoria with tears that froze instantly against her pale cheeks. “Vicky… my baby girl. They took you from my arms the moment they pulled us from the riverbed. Harrington threatened to drown you in front of me if I didn’t play along. He raised you as his own pampered daughter to keep me compliant in that private sanatorium in Denver!”
“And what about the other baby?” Alexander demanded, his voice dropping into a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly, gravel-low rasp. “What did Harrington do to our son?!”
Whitmore’s lips twisted into an ugly, triumphant smirk. He pulled a thick parchment tied with an official court seal from his breast pocket and tossed it onto the table beside Victoria.
“Harrington didn’t kill the boy, Blackwood. He was far more creative than that,” Whitmore said coldly. “He gave your son to a brutal labor foreman in the silver mines. That boy grew up in filth, believing the legendary Captain Blackwood was the coward who abandoned him to starve. And right now, that young man is riding with the territorial posse on the ridge above us, holding five kegs of blasting powder.”
Alexander’s blood turned to ice. “What did you tell him?!”
“I told him the mad hermit on this peak kidnapped Victoria Harrington for ransom,” Whitmore purred. “He has no idea the woman inside is his twin sister. He thinks he’s finally avenging his mother’s death.”
Whitmore kicked the door shut against the howling gale, his eyes gleaming with pure avarice.
“Here is the bargain, Alexander. Sign the deed transferring the entire Blackwood Pᴀss mineral trust to my rail syndicate. Once you sign, I take Victoria back to Boston to seal our marriage and claim Harrington’s five hundred thousand. Refuse… and I give the signal.”
Whitmore raised his free hand toward the mountain crest visible through the shattered glᴀss, where a glowing red flare sputtered against the black night.
“Your own son will drop the dynamite into the chimney chute, Blackwood. And you’ll die knowing your own flesh and blood buried you alive.”
