PART 2: THE BRIDE NO ONE WANTED

PART 2: THE WARRIOR’S SECRET
Red Hawk stood between Emily and the approaching riders.

“Stay behind me,” he whispered.

Thomas Blake stopped his horse several feet away.

“Emily! Come with me. This has gone far enough.”

Emily stepped forward.

“You abandoned me at the church. You tried to steal my father’s ranch. Why should I trust you?”

Thomas forced a smile.

“You’re confused. I can explain everything.”

Red Hawk interrupted him.

“She is not going anywhere.”

Thomas stared at the Apache warrior.

“This is a family matter. Stay out of it.”

Red Hawk’s expression remained cold.

“Your business with her ended when you left her alone in the wilderness.”

Thomas turned toward his men.

“Remember this night, Emily. You’ll regret choosing him.”

He pulled his horse around and disappeared into the darkness.

Emily watched until the riders were gone.

“Why did he look so frightened when he saw you?” she asked.

Red Hawk picked up her father’s letter.

“Because he knows what your father left behind.”

THE SECRET OF THE EASTERN RIDGE
Red Hawk took Emily to a small cabin near the mountains.

He gave her a blanket and placed some food beside the fireplace.

Emily looked at him carefully.

“Why are you helping me?”

Red Hawk sat across from her.

“Many years ago, I was badly injured near your father’s ranch. Your father found me and helped me recover. He treated me like a friend when others wanted nothing to do with me.”

Emily listened silently.

“Before he died, he asked me to protect you if Thomas ever came looking for something hidden beneath the eastern ridge.”

Emily’s hands trembled.

“What is hidden there?”

“A box. Your father said it contained evidence of a terrible betrayal.”

Emily remembered something.

“When I was little, Father used to visit an old abandoned mine near the ridge. He never allowed anyone to follow him.”

Red Hawk nodded.

“Then that is where we must go.”

THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
The following morning, Emily and Red Hawk traveled toward the eastern ridge.

On the way, Emily noticed an old scar across Red Hawk’s shoulder.

“How did you get that?”

He looked away.

“Protecting someone I once trusted.”

“Did you lose someone you loved?”

Red Hawk remained silent for a moment.

“My younger brother disappeared many years ago. I searched everywhere, but never found him.”

Emily felt sorry for him.

For the first time, she realized that the mysterious warrior carried his own heartbreak.

When they reached the abandoned mine, Red Hawk noticed fresh horse tracks.

Someone had been there recently.

He drew closer to the entrance.

“Thomas knows about this place.”

Inside, they discovered an old wooden chest hidden beneath broken boards.

Emily opened it.

There were letters, property records, and an old pH๏τograph.

She picked up the pH๏τograph and gasped.

It showed her father standing beside a much younger Red Hawk.

But there was another man in the picture.

Thomas’s father.

Emily looked at Red Hawk.

“What does this mean?”

Red Hawk examined the pH๏τograph.

“It means your father and Thomas’s father once worked together.”

THE LETTER THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
At the bottom of the chest, Emily discovered another envelope.

Her father’s handwriting was unmistakable.

She opened it and began reading.

“Emily,

If you are reading this, then Thomas has finally discovered what his father tried to hide.

The ranch was never just land. Beneath it lies a valuable water source that could sustain the entire valley.

Thomas’s family wanted to control it.

But I refused to let them take it away from the people who depended on it.

There is something else you must know.

The man who carries the silver eagle is connected to a secret I have protected for many years.

Trust him.

He knows the truth about the night your mother disappeared.”

Emily stopped reading.

Her mother?

Emily had always been told that her mother died when she was a baby.

She turned toward Red Hawk.

“Did you know my mother?”

Before he could answer, a gunsH๏τ echoed outside.

Red Hawk pulled Emily behind a wooden support.

Someone was standing at the entrance.

A familiar voice called out.

“Emily, I know you’re in there.”

It was Margaret.

Her aunt.

But why had she followed them?

THE SHOCKING REVELATION
Margaret entered slowly, holding an old pH๏τograph.

Her face was pale.

“Emily, you need to come home.”

Emily shook her head.

“Why? So Thomas can take everything?”

Margaret looked at Red Hawk.

Then she whispered something that made Emily’s heart stop.

“Your father didn’t die knowing the whole truth. Your mother is alive.”

Emily felt the world disappear around her.

“What?”

Margaret began to cry.

“I lied to you. I thought I was protecting you.”

Red Hawk stepped forward.

“Tell her everything.”

Margaret looked down at the pH๏τograph in her hands.

Then she revealed a name.

A name Emily had never heard before.

And it belonged to the woman who had been secretly searching for her daughter for more than twenty years.

Emily stared at the pH๏τograph.

The woman standing beside her father looked almost exactly like her.

But before Margaret could explain further, another voice came from outside.

“Nobody moves.”

Thomas had returned.

And this time, he wasn’t alone.
