Sir Tom Jones Turns Down ‘Super Guest Judge’ Role on The Voice After Being Dropped from Full Coaching Panel

Sir Tom Jones has turned down an offer to appear as a “super guest judge” on the next series of The Voice UK, according to the latest reports. The decision means the veteran performer will not return in any capacity for the upcoming season and will not share the screen with the remaining coaches.

The 86-year-old Welsh singer, famous for classics such as “It’s Not Unusual,” “Delilah” and “Sєx Bomb,” had been linked to the ITV talent compeтιтion since its early years, serving as a coach on and off for more than a decade. Last month, ITV confirmed he would not continue as a full-time coach. Sources said the broadcaster had hoped a limited guest appearance would keep him involved, but Sir Tom viewed the scaled-back position as insufficient and declined it.

Insiders described the situation surrounding his exit as messy. One source stated that Sir Tom and his team were deeply unhappy with how the departure was handled. “ITV had hoped he would return in some capacity, but it isn’t happening,” the source added. Producers are now focusing on other high-profile elements for the new series, including the arrival of Cheryl on the coaching panel and plans for a mini Destiny’s Child reunion. Kelly Rowland is reportedly arranging for former bandmate Michelle Williams to travel from the United States to ᴀssist during the battle rounds.

When the news of his removal first became public, Sir Tom addressed the matter directly on Instagram. He made clear that leaving the show was not his choice and that he still loved the programme and its audience. He explained that the reason initially given involved insurance difficulties, while later public comments from the network referred to a desire to refresh the line-up. He also noted that the alternative role offered would have limited him to occasional appearances without full involvement from the beginning of the process, something he was not prepared to accept. He added that there is never a good time to remove an 86-year-old who remains capable at the job.

The coaching panel for the next series is expected to feature will.i.am and Kelly Rowland alongside new arrivals Cheryl and Aitch. Filming has already begun, and the series is scheduled for broadcast in 2027. ITV has not issued a further public comment on Sir Tom’s decision to decline the guest role.
The departure of one of the show’s longest-serving and most recognisable coaches marks a significant shift for The Voice UK. While the production team continues to reshape the format and introduce new faces, Sir Tom’s refusal of the reduced position closes the door on any on-screen return in the immediate future.
