Newly released interrogation footage is shedding new light on the disturbing case of Chad Doerman, the Ohio father convicted after the d#aths of his three young sons.

In interviews released by the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, Doerman told detectives that he believed he was carrying out what God wanted and repeatedly connected his actions to religious ideas involving sacrifice, Hell and the end of the world. According to the footage, he said he had been thinking about a biblical story involving sacrifice after attending a church service with his family.

A CLAIMED RELIGIOUS MOTIVE

During the interrogation, Doerman described his belief that he was being tested and that he had to obey. When detectives questioned him about why he had acted as he did, he responded that he did it “for God,” according to the newly released video.

He also spoke about believing that he was in Hell and that the world was coming to an end. Investigators tried to understand the beliefs and thoughts he said had been influencing him at the time.

The biblical story he appeared to reference was similar to the story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22, although Doerman did not identify the pᴀssage by name.

THE JUNE 2023 TRAGEDY

The case dates back to June 15, 2023, when authorities responded to Doerman’s Ohio home after reports of a family shooting.

His three sons — Clayton, 7, Hunter, 4, and Chase, 3 — d#ied that day. Their mother, Laura Doerman, was also injured while attempting to protect the children.

The newly released footage provides additional context about what Doerman told investigators immediately afterward and gives the public a closer look at the explanations he offered for his actions.

FROM CONFESSION TO LIFE SENTENCES

Doerman ultimately pleaded guilty in August 2024 to three counts of aggravated mu#der and two counts of felonious ᴀssault. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors did not pursue the d#ath penalty.

He was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, meaning he will remain incarcerated for the rest of his life.

The release of the interrogation footage has now brought renewed attention to a case that shocked the Ohio community more than three years ago.

Three children.
Three young lives lost.
And a newly revealed account of the beliefs Doerman said were behind his actions.
