New online claims are attempting to connect the JonBenét Ramsey case with recently released files and Hollywood figures including Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel.
The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey Reveals First Look at Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen in Netflix Show
Netflix shared the first look of Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy Ramsey and John Bennett Ramsey in the TV show The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, which premieres Dec. 10.
The mystery behind the death of JonBenét Ramsey is headed to the small screen.
Netflix revealed its first look at Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen playing JonBenét’s parents Patsy Ramsey and John Bennett Ramsey, respectively, in their upcoming series, The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey.
In the pH๏τo, the Oscar nominees can be seen sitting before a group of reporters, looking off into the distance. McCarthy and Owen are joined by Garrett Hedlund (Det. Steve Thomas), Alison Pill (Det. Linda Arndt) and Emily Mitchell as JonBenét in the series that explores the 6-year-old’s tragic death after her parents found her in the family’s basement on Dec. 26, 1996.
“Told from multiple angles, the series unravels the speculation and unresolved grief,” Netflix’s Tudum shared Sept. 15. “After a national media frenzy, nearly 30 years—and more than 21,016 tips, letters, and emails later—the killer has not been found.”
The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey is not the first time Netflix has covered JonBenét’s death, as it also released the docuseries Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey in 2024.
The documentary explored not only the unsolved case, but also the suspicion around JonBenét’s parents, although neither Patsy nor John were ever arrested or charged in connection with their daughter’s death.
“We could have the killer arrested, convicted, in prison,” John, now 82, reflected in the series, “and there’d still be 5 to 10 percent of the population that thinks we’re guilty.”
Patsy—who died of ovarian cancer in 2006 at the age of 49—also spoke out about the suspicions in 1997, telling reports during a press conference at the time, “I’m appalled that anyone would think that John or I would be involved in such a hideous, heinous crime. But let me ᴀssure you that I did not kill JonBenét and did not have anything to do with it. I loved that child with the whole of my heart and soul.”
And as John—who also shared son Burke with Patsy—explained in the series, he and his wife complied with everything the investigators asked them.
“Blood samples, DNA samples, whatever they asked for. Records, all our credit card [records], anything they asked for, we gave it to them,” he recalled. “I would’ve been happy to die, quite frankly, to relieve the pain.”
The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey premieres on Netflix Dec. 10.
