RIVERDALE, GEORGIA — What began as a reported kidnapping quickly became a devastating investigation after authorities discovered that 6-month-old Nnakai Pratt was d*ad and that the story surrounding his disappearance allegedly was not true.

On Oct. 12, 2025, police were called to an apartment on Valley Hill Road in Riverdale after Nnakai’s father, Antonio Pearce, reported that armed men had robbed him.

According to police, Pearce told investigators that two men dressed in black had taken approximately $6,500 in cash and three pounds of marijuana from an apartment he described as a “stash house.”

He also told officers that the men had taken something far more precious: his infant son.

Pearce allegedly said Nnakai had been sitting in his car seat when the men took him.

A large search effort followed. But investigators soon began questioning the account.

According to police, Pearce’s story changed, witness accounts contradicted portions of his statements, and investigators said evidence from his phone did not support his version of events.

Pearce was eventually arrested on unrelated drug and traffic charges while authorities continued searching for Nnakai.

Two days after the baby was reported missing, investigators found him.

Nnakai’s body was discovered inside a partially opened trash bag near the apartment complex, along a fence in the backyard of a nearby home.

Preliminary medical examiner information reportedly indicated that the baby was still wearing a “My First Thanksgiving” shirt and Minnie Mouse pants.

Authorities later determined that Nnakai d*ed from blunt-force trauma to his head.

Investigators also examined what happened before the infant disappeared.

Nnakai had a twin sister. According to preliminary information, Nnakai was last seen alive after arriving at his mother’s apartment shortly after midnight.

Investigators reportedly saw Pearce later leaving the home carrying two car seats. One car seat was covered in a way that prevented investigators from seeing the male twin inside.

Authorities also questioned Necolette Pratt, Nnakai’s mother. Investigators said she had previously reported that Pearce had shaken the baby and later alleged that some of her statements during the investigation were inconsistent.

Necolette was arrested and accused of helping conceal what happened.

Both parents were eventually indicted by a Clayton County grand jury on multiple charges connected to Nnakai’s d*ath and the alleged cover-up.

Prosecutors allege the parents maliciously caused Nnakai “cruel and excessive pain” and disfigured his head.

Pearce has faced charges including mrder, cruelty to children, aggravated ᴀssault, aggravated battery, concealing a dath, tampering with evidence and falsely reporting a crime.

Necolette has faced charges involving child cruelty, concealing Nnakai’s d*ath, obstruction, false statements and being a party to a crime.

The charges are allegations, and neither parent has been convicted based on the information provided.

After Nnakai was found, his twin sister was placed into state custody.

A memorial later grew near the area where his body had been discovered. A small white cross, stuffed animals and handwritten messages were left in remembrance of a baby many people never had the chance to meet.

But Nnakai was more than the disturbing circumstances surrounding his d*ath.

He was a 6-month-old baby.

He had a twin sister. He had a life that should have been just beginning.
