‼️ A MINNESOTA PASTOR TRAVELED TO ITALY TO CELEBRATE HIS SON’S WEDDING. WEEKS LATER, HIS FAMILY RETURNED HOME WITH A LOSS THEY NEVER COULD HAVE IMAGINED.

Steve Junker and his family had traveled overseas aboard the Sun Princess for what should have been one of the happiest occasions of their lives.

They were there to celebrate his son’s wedding.

But on August 16, everything changed.

According to his family, Steve fell and nearly drowned after being found face down and unresponsive in one of the ship’s pools.

He was transported by Italian Coast Guard boat to a hospital in Naples, where doctors discovered severe compression of his spinal cord at the C3-C4 level of his neck.

The following day, Steve underwent emergency spinal surgery.

Although his family said the procedure itself was successful, the spinal cord damage was devastating. Steve was left quadriplegic and unable to breathe without mechanical support.

Then another serious complication emerged.

According to his family, Steve developed a multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection in his lungs while hospitalized.

His loved ones were suddenly trying to navigate a terrifying medical crisis thousands of miles from Minnesota.

They described difficulties communicating with medical staff, obtaining medical records and spending enough time with Steve during his treatment.

Their greatest goal became getting him home.

And eventually, they succeeded.

On August 23, Steve was medically transported back to Minnesota and admitted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

For his family, having him back on American soil meant they could finally be closer to him.

But their hopes were shattered less than two weeks later.

On September 4, Steve died surrounded by the people who loved him.

He was laid to rest in Minnesota the following Friday.

Steve leaves behind his wife, five children and their spouses, a grandchild and a church community that knew him not simply as a pastor, but as a husband, father, grandfather, friend and man of faith.

Before entering ministry, Steve worked as a pharmacist.

His church remembered him as someone whose faith had touched many lives.

One of the most moving tributes came from his son, Nathaniel, who honored his father through worship music after Steve’s pᴀssing.

There is something especially heartbreaking about the circumstances of Steve’s final journey.

He left Minnesota to celebrate one of his children beginning a new chapter.

He was supposed to come home with memories of a wedding, family pH๏τographs and a joyful story to tell.

Instead, his family came home grieving.

The wedding trip that was meant to bring everyone together in celebration became the final chapter of Steve’s life.

Now, his wife, children, grandchild and church family are left to carry his memory forward.
