‼️ HE WENT ACROSS THE ROAD TO BUY DIAPERS AND WIPES FOR HIS BABY. MINUTES LATER, A TEXAS FAMILY WAS FACING A LOSS THEY NEVER SAW COMING.

Cody Cudd was supposed to be coming home.

He had gone to Dollar General to pick up diapers and wipes for his 1-year-old son, Zeppelin. Then he got back into his vehicle and headed toward the home where his wife and four young children were waiting.

He was almost there.

According to his sister Lauren, Cody was stopped on Highway 51, waiting to turn into the driveway of his home in Boyd, Texas, when another vehicle struck him from behind.

The impact killed him just feet from his own driveway.

The investigation remains ongoing.

For Cody’s family, the location makes the tragedy even harder to comprehend.

He wasn’t on a long road trip. He wasn’t far from home.

He was doing something ordinary—a father picking up supplies for his baby and driving home to his family.

He never made it through the door.

Cody leaves behind his wife, Madison, and four children: Lakeynn, 8, Colt, 6, Ledgend, 4, and Zeppelin, just 1 year old.

Cody was also the sole provider for the household, meaning his death has left the family grieving not only an irreplaceable husband and father but also facing an uncertain financial future.

Lauren described her brother as a “gentle giant with a heart of gold.”

She said he was patient, understanding and deeply devoted to his children.

“I’m in awe of the husband and father he grew to be,” she said.

That love is now what his family is holding onto.

Madison must somehow move forward without the husband she expected to come home that night. And Cody’s four children are now facing a future without the father who was supposed to watch them grow.

The family also hopes Cody’s death will lead to changes on Highway 51.

Lauren says they believe the stretch of roadway has been dangerous for years and would like officials to consider safety improvements, including a traffic light or turning lane.

But amid the grief and calls for change, Lauren has a message that reaches far beyond this one tragedy.

“Never take a single moment for granted.”

Hug the people you love.

Tell them you love them.

Say it even when you think there will always be another tomorrow.

Because Cody thought he was coming home.

His family thought they would see him walk through the door.

Instead, Madison and four little children are left with memories of a father who was only seconds from home.
