💔 Five Days Apart: Family Now Prepares to Bury Both Calvin and Karalee Shepard

They were brother and sister.
They went out riding their bicycles together.
Now, their parents are preparing to say goodbye to both children at the same funeral. 🕊️💔

The Shepard family is facing a loss almost impossible to comprehend.

Five days after 12-year-old Calvin Shepard was ked in a devastating bicycle crash, his 13-year-old sister, Karalee, has also dd from complications related to the same incident.

Her family says Karalee pᴀssed peacefully this afternoon, surrounded by the people who loved her.

Just days earlier, her family had been desperately hoping and praying for a different outcome.

On Monday, Karalee’s mother, Raquel, shared a plea with the community: “Please don’t stop praying. She’s not out of the woods yet.”

People responded with prayers for Karalee’s brain, her body and the medical team working to save her. 🙏💙

But behind those prayers was a reality no parent should ever have to experience.

Cody and Raquel were already grieving their 12-year-old son while simultaneously fighting to keep their daughter alive.

Then came the update they had been praying would never arrive.

“Our hearts are broken beyond what we can put into words,” the Shepard family shared.

Karalee and Calvin were more than two children caught in a tragic crash.

They were siblings.

They rode their bikes together. They shared a childhood together. They were supposed to have years of growing up, celebrating birthdays, making memories and experiencing life side by side.

Instead, their family is now facing the unimaginable reality of losing them both within five days. 💔

Calvin’s funeral had originally been planned for Saturday.

But after Karalee’s pᴀssing, their parents said they could not bear the thought of saying goodbye to their children twice.

So they made the heartbreaking decision to have one funeral.

Together.

The service is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. in East Lansing, Michigan.

For Cody and Raquel, there is no simple way to describe what comes next.

They are not preparing to bury one child.

They are preparing to bury both of their children at the same time.

The Shepard family says they are finding comfort in their faith and in the belief that Karalee and Calvin are together again, “in the loving arms of our Savior.” 🕊️🙏
