A former coworker shared a striking memory during Lindsay Clancy’s trial.
Lindsay Clancy once cried when she learned about the horror case of infamous kid-killing mom Andrea Yates — saying, “How could a mother hurt her children?” according to chilling court testimony Monday.
Clancy — now on trial in Mᴀssachusetts for fatally strangling her own three young children with exercise cords — wept over the 2001 case in which Yates, then 37, drowned her five children ages 7 to 4 months one by one in the bathtub of her family’s Houston home.
Margaret Hamp, a then-hospital coworker of Clancy’s, testified that she mentioned the Yates case to the defendant at work when a pregnant woman came into the hospital wanting to kill herself.
“I explained [Yates] to [Clancy], and [Clancy] cried and said, ‘How could a mother hurt her children?’ ” said Hamp, who along with Clancy was a labor and delivery nurse at the time.
Clancy’s lawyers are claiming that the 36-year-old mom was in the throes of a postpartum psychosis fueled by an overload of prescription drugs when she killed her children in 2023.
Yates also argued postpartum psychosis in the case that horrified the nation.
She was originally found guilty of capital murder but then had that conviction overturned.
She was eventually found not guilty by reason of insanity and remains in a mental hospital to this day — at least partly likely by choice.
Yates is eligible to undergo a mental review annually as part of a potential bid to be freed but has declined to take one.
“She’s where she wants to be. Where she needs to be,” her lawyer told ABC News in 2021.
“And I mean, hypothetically, where would she go? What would she do?”
Her former husband, Rusty, has said Clancy should likewise not go to prison for her kids’ killings because of her “sickness.’’
