That distinction is important. A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department reportedly said task-force investigators had not recently returned to that specific area, while the FBI had not publicly confirmed the neighbor’s account. There has been no official announcement stating that the storms uncovered a breakthrough or that investigators found evidence directly connected to Nancy’s disappearance.
The investigation has previously involved extensive searches, surveillance footage, forensic testing and numerous leads. Earlier in the case, authorities conducted a search-warrant operation at a residence roughly two miles from Nancy’s home after following a lead. No arrest resulted from that operation, and officials emphasized that the search was part of the continuing investigation.
Nancy was reported missing on February 1 after she failed to appear at church. Investigators have treated the disappearance as a suspected kidnapping, and surveillance footage released by the FBI showed a masked individual outside her home around the time she disappeared. Authorities have continued asking the public for information that could help identify the person seen in the footage.
