Ten-year-old Kaylie Hammond is preparing for brain surgery, but an alarming increase in seizures has left her mother wondering whether they will even make it safely to the scheduled operation. 💔

Kaylie’s mother, Tammy Hammond, recently reached out asking people to pray for her daughter after an extraordinarily difficult day.

According to Tammy, Kaylie experienced 37 seizures in just 12 hours as her family waited desperately for medication to take effect.

The situation is especially frightening because Kaylie is already preparing for a major medical procedure.

Kaylie has lived with significant medical challenges since birth, including epilepsy, hydrocephalus, and a PIK3CA gene mutation.

Because of her medical history, she had previously undergone regular imaging to monitor her condition.

Tammy says an MRI in October 2023 showed something doctors initially believed could have been an imaging issue. As Kaylie grew older, her scans became less frequent.

But her mother could not shake the feeling that another scan was needed.

Earlier this year, Tammy requested another MRI.

When Kaylie finally underwent the scan in June, the results revealed a devastating discovery:

A tumor in her cerebellum. 🧠💔

Doctors scheduled brain surgery for Monday, August 24, to remove it.

Her family began preparing for what would already have been an incredibly difficult day.

Then the seizures intensified.

Tammy says Kaylie’s seizures became dramatically worse this week, with 37 occurring within a single 12-hour period.

Her medication has been given, and her mother is now waiting and hoping it will bring the seizures under control.

At the same time, Tammy is packing their bags.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is approximately six hours away, and she says that if Kaylie’s seizures continue, the family is prepared to make an emergency journey to the hospital.

For a mother, the uncertainty is terrifying.

She is watching her daughter struggle while knowing that a major brain operation is only days away.

Tammy reached out because she has previously seen people come together to pray for children facing serious medical challenges.

Now she is asking them to do the same for Kaylie.

“Right now Kaylie really needs them,” she said.

The family is asking for prayers that Kaylie’s seizures will settle and that her body will finally get some much-needed rest.

They are also praying that she remains stable until surgery, that the operation is successful, and that her recovery brings encouraging news. 🙏❤️

Kaylie has already endured more medical challenges in her ten years than most children could ever imagine.
