Only 11 days ago, Julianna Barrientos underwent two surgeries lasting 32 hours. Doctors rebuilt her pelvis and amputated her leg. Today, the 17-year-old is learning how to get out of bed again — one difficult step at a time. 🕊️

At just 17 years old, Julianna Barrientos is facing a reality no teenager should have to imagine.

The St. Clair County, Alabama, High School senior-to-be has been diagnosed with bone cancer, a disease that has dramatically changed the future she once envisioned.

Before cancer entered her life, Julianna dreamed of playing college soccer.

She had worked toward that dream like so many young athletes do — imagining herself continuing the sport she loved after high school.

Now, that dream has come to an end.

But Julianna’s dreams themselves have not.

Today, she has her sights set on a different future.

She hopes to become a nurse or study neurology.

And she is already showing the determination needed to get there. ❤️

🕊️ 32 HOURS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Just 11 days ago, Julianna endured two major surgeries lasting a combined 32 hours.

Doctors rebuilt her pelvis and amputated her leg as part of her treatment for bone cancer.

It was a life-changing moment.

Now, instead of preparing for soccer games or looking ahead to her senior year, Julianna is working through rehabilitation and physical therapy.

Every movement can be a challenge.

Every attempt to get out of bed is an accomplishment.

Every day brings another opportunity to regain strength and adapt to her new reality.

Her father, Adam Barrientos, captured a pH๏τograph of Julianna at MD Anderson in Houston, one of the world’s leading cancer centers.

The image represents something much bigger than a hospital stay.

It shows a teenager working to rebuild her life.

💙 “SHE BELIEVES GOD IS BIGGER”

Adam says he is incredibly proud of his daughter’s progress.

“She is very determined and knows she has a long way to go,” he shared.

But Julianna is holding onto something even stronger than determination.

Her faith. 🙏

She has remained deeply immersed in her Bible while recovering in her hospital room.

Even during the hardest moments, she continues to believe there is something bigger than the cancer she is fighting.

“She believes God is bigger,” Adam said.

He also believes Julianna has been surrounded by the right medical team to help her through the enormous challenges ahead.

“He blessed her with the right team to help her move mountains.”

Those words capture the atтιтude Julianna is carrying into this next chapter.

She knows the road will be long.

She knows rehabilitation will be difficult.

She knows her life will look different than the one she imagined just months ago.

But she is moving forward anyway.

⚽ A DREAM ENDS — A NEW ONE BEGINS

Losing the possibility of playing college soccer is undoubtedly heartbreaking.

At 17, Julianna should be thinking about her senior year, college applications, soccer, friends, and all the possibilities that come with standing on the edge of adulthood.

Instead, she is learning how to navigate life after a major surgery.

But cancer has not taken away her ambition.

She now dreams of becoming a nurse or pursuing neurology — careers that could allow her to help other people facing difficult medical journeys.

Perhaps her own experience will someday give her an understanding of patients that cannot be learned from a textbook alone. ❤️

For now, though, her priority is much simpler:

Heal.

Get stronger.

Complete rehabilitation.

Take each day as it comes.

And hope that no additional cancerous spots appear.

Julianna knows she has a long way to go.

But she is already moving forward.

Her father says she has been resilient and positive throughout this difficult journey.

And today, another challenge awaits — getting out of bed, working through therapy, and taking another step toward her new normal.

Bone cancer may be ruthless.

It may have changed Julianna’s body and taken away a dream she worked hard to achieve.

But it has not taken away her courage.

It has not taken away her faith.
